5 Associations Join Forces to Develop the Wood Industry

The Vietnam Wood and Forest Products Association (VIFOREST), the Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association (DOWA), the Ho Chi Minh City Handicraft and Wood Processing Association (HAWA), the Binh Duong Wood Processing Association (BIFA), and the Binh Dinh Wood and Forest Products Association (FPA Binh Dinh) have signed an Agreement on the Sustainable Development of the Vietnamese Wood Industry.

According to information from VIFOREST, this agreement was signed this afternoon (February 25th). Accordingly, based on the operating regulations of the Associations and the development goals of the Vietnamese wood industry, and with the consensus of the Executive Boards of the Associations, the Presidents of the five Associations agreed to sign an agreement on sustainable development cooperation for the Vietnamese wood industry with many important contents.

Firstly, the Associations will cooperate to strive to achieve the target of exporting wood and forest products worth 18 to 20 billion USD by 2025, as well as other targets set out in Decision No. 523/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2021, of the Prime Minister approving the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Forestry in the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, and Plan No. 3458/BNN-TCLN of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development implementing the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Forestry.

The associations promote trade activities, develop export and domestic markets; introduce and promote businesses and the image, quality, and designs of Vietnamese wood products to domestic and international consumers, and together build the brand of the Vietnamese wood industry.

The associations are working together to contribute to the development of Vietnam's wood industry through cooperation and linkages to form and develop a high-tech forestry zone in the south, transforming it into a regional furniture center with leading production, processing, and trade capacity for furniture and wood products in the Asia-Pacific region. This is based on close cooperation among the wood industry business community nationwide, leveraging the strengths of pioneering localities including Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Dinh, and several other provinces and cities.

For the robust and sustainable development of Vietnam's timber industry, for the legitimate interests of the Vietnamese business community and trade partners, and to contribute to protecting key export markets such as the United States, the EU, and Japan, the Associations closely coordinate with central ministries and agencies, local authorities, and the business community to propose effective and timely directions and solutions to combat and prevent origin fraud and illegal transshipment, and eliminate fraudulent and illegal businesses.

During the collaboration process, any difficulties or obstacles will be discussed and resolved jointly by the Associations, with adjustments and additions made to ensure that cooperation and linkages in the wood industry become increasingly effective and sustainable.
